1944, Vermillo, a remote mountain village. The arrival of the scoundrel Pietro into the family of a local teacher and his love for the teacher’s eldest daughter changes the course of everyone’s lives. Italy’s official entry for the 97th Academy Awards in the “Best International Feature Film” category in 2025.. in the film “Close Up: Why Do We Need a Venice Film Festival?” (2024). This is the worst film I have ever seen in my life. It is painfully slow and unbearably boring – literally nothing happens. Five people left the cinema, and frankly I don’t blame them. The characters just sit there doing nothing. I understand that the film is supposed to depict what life was like back then, but people had daily chores and professions back then too. However, this film is just endless silence and characters lying in bed. That’s it – two hours of nothing. I wouldn’t recommend it even to my worst enemy. In fact, it could easily be used as a form of torture. I couldn’t wait to get home.
