Narrative
A grieving therapist begins telling his clients exactly what he thinks
Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge changes in people’s lives, including his own. The cast of “Shrinking” share their defining moments from season 1 and reveal who has the best Harrison Ford impression.
Eventually, Goldstein spoke to Ford and sold him on the role
When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford to appear on the show, Segel said that Goldstein initially wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and would audition people who looked like Ford. Segel told Goldstein that he had to at least bring it to Ford first, thinking he would immediately turn him down, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford was being brought on board, generating interest from other top actors.

Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was still thrilled. I’ve watched the first two episodes and found them compelling.
He hasn’t gotten into the silly situations of other shows like Loot, but it’s still early in the series and I’ll keep watching
Part of the reason is that I found there to be some reality-based substance to this about a therapist who needs therapy and is willing to go all in on his patients to unexpectedly overcome his own issues. I also respect the way he’s presented – he’s not doing something that other therapists are supposed to be doing, and that’s pretty clear.
The show isn’t for everyone
That said, I do enjoy the depth of the characters who don’t seem like caricatures; they’re people I’m interested in getting to know.
