his Montana accent and reverts to the Southern California voice he normally uses. Kevin Costner is the patriarch presiding over a dynastic ranch the size of some countries. His way of life is influenced by tourist promoters, tribal rights, and the authority of the state of Montana.
Costner seems to fill his character’s boots naturally
He resembles Rock Hudson in “Giant” and tries to stick to the old ways. “Yellowstone”; It unfolds quickly with little introduction, but its story unfolds at the natural pace of a day in the wilderness, lingering on tribal rituals, cowboy customs, and political machinations. It’s a wide-ranging undertaking that relies on the union of law and justice, family and friendship.
The land and family are his life force
He’s a world-weary man who’s seen too much and lied to too many times. He hears footsteps approaching him, but can only fulfill his role out of habit rather than loyalty. While some of the actions are a bit confusing due to the lack of explanation, it feels natural, as if the viewer gets a glimpse into a real slice of life in another world.
I’m upping the grade to a “9”
I hope the denouement of this saga includes an emotional payoff that justifies its breadth and attention to detail. Update 7/20/2018: After four episodes, this series has a strong voice and a steady pace. We learn the fullness of each story, from roots to fruits.
